The Jacksonville High School Cardinals Football Dynasty of the 1980s
"The late Coach Gideon Johnson was the heart and soul
of the Cardinals football team " --Tony Thompson (Linebacker,1984)
was arguably one of the greatest high school football dynasties in the state of North Carolina. The Cardinals 1982 football team captured the 4A Division State Championship defeating the dominant Greensboro Page High School team. The Jacksonville Hall of Fame Association inducted many of the 1980s team members into the hall in order to preserve their legacy. The team was led by the hall of famer Coach Ray Durham and lead by football stars like William Devane and Scotty Arnold, to name a few.
